Black representation is a topic that isn’t talked about as much as it should be. It is important and empowering for young black kids to see someone who looks like them on the big screen. Not being able to see themselves as "important" can affect the self- image, which is why representation is imperative for young Black girls. Black representation influences the minds of black youth.
Misrepresentation Affects the Way Young Black Girls See Themselves
Our goal is to inform the public about the negative effects of Underrepresentation and Misrepresentation in the Black Community and ways to combat it

The Black population in the U.S. has grown by 30% since 2000, rising from 36.2 million then to 47.2 million in 2021
While 7% of newsroom employees are black, 11% of U.S. workers overall are black


Students of color face harsher punishments in school than their white peers, leading to a higher number of youth of color incarcerated
